About this Xiaomi Mi Box S 2nd gen list

Header: Xiaomi Mi Box S 2nd gen (model MiTV-AFKR0, codename jaws, Amlogic), Google TV / Android 11 (SDK 30)

2 GB RAM. Fingerprints: Xiaomi/jaws/jaws:11/RTT0.211222.001/772:user/release-keys and RTT0.211222.001.737 (validated 2026-10-19 on a Philco 4K TV) Stock launcher: com.google.android.apps.tv.launcherx. HOME claimants on stock: launcherx (priority 2), com.google.android.tungsten.setupwraith/.RecoveryActivity (priority 1), Settings FallbackHome. A streaming box: no HDMI-in or tuner, leave live_tv_package empty in config.xml; the Inputs pill hides itself. Tested: every package below was disabled in batches with screenshots in between, the launcher from launcher/ was installed and owns Home, and Home and Wi-Fi both came back by themselves after a reboot. Validated again 2026-10-19 on 737: launcher com.gathin.tvhome owns Home, cname switched from setupwraith to com.android.tv.settings and survives reboot. Still provisional until few-days soak per CONTRIBUTING.md, but second confirmation. Notes from this box: - The stock adb on macOS connected fine on port 5555 once USB debugging was on; no wireless-debugging pairing and no tools/tv.py needed. - Disabling launcherx alone makes Home resolve to setupwraith's RecoveryActivity; `cmd package set-home-activity` reports Success but does not take effect until setupwraith is disabled too. - Right after disabling setupwraith, Wi-Fi dropped for about 20 seconds and the box asked for the Wi-Fi password again. Once it was re-entered, it stayed saved across a reboot. - After living with it: Wi-Fi, USB playback (with debugging off), Google Home, the phone remote, Chromecast from a Pixel and Google Assistant all still work. On 737, display is 1920x1080 UI with Settings > Tela e som > Resolução = 4k 60Hz (video 4K, HDR none on Philco 2016 EDID). - The remote's shortcut buttons (Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Xiaomi TV+, Apps) all do nothing once launcherx is disabled. Prime Video and Xiaomi TV+ are disabled anyway; Netflix, YouTube and Apps were handled by launcherx, as on the Chromecast with Google TV (see that list for a Key Mapper remap). Kept on purpose: Google Assistant (katniss), Chromecast (mediashell), phone remote (tv.remote.service), YouTube Music, Xiaomi USB media apps (mimusic2, mitv.gallery, mediaexplorer, mitv.videoplayer), Miracast (smartshare, wfdsinkhelperservice), com.xiaomi.tvqs.overseas (quick settings panel), com.xiaomi.android.tvsetup.partnercustomizer (remote shortcut buttons - safe to disable if you don't use the Netflix/YouTube/Prime shortcut keys; tested disabled on 737 with no other effect), mitv.service, com.mi.bluetooth, com.droidlogic* (Amlogic system), com.xiaomi.gtv.settings.

Before you run it: every package below is disabled, not uninstalled. Comment out (prefix with #) any line for an app you use. Never disable the Play Store, Play Services, the on-screen keyboard or the TV input services that play HDMI. Switch USB debugging off when you are done.

Apply the Xiaomi Mi Box S 2nd gen debloat

Turn on Developer options on the TV (Settings → Device Preferences → About → press OK on Build seven times), switch on USB debugging and, if shown, Network or ADB debugging. Then, from a clone of the cleanyourtv repository on a computer on the same Wi-Fi:

export TV_HOST=192.168.1.50   # your TV's IP address
tools/venv/bin/python -I tools/tv.py --probe
tools/disable.sh examples/xiaomi-mi-box-s-2nd-gen/debloat.txt

Then build and install the clean launcher, which makes itself the default Home and rolls back if it fails:

TV_HOST=192.168.1.50 launcher/build-and-install.sh

Prefer to let an assistant do it? Paste the cleanyourtv prompt into Claude Code with "Xiaomi Mi Box S 2nd gen" as the model; it reads this list, checks each package on your TV and asks before anything that depends on your preferences.

Restore the Xiaomi Mi Box S 2nd gen

TV_HOST=192.168.1.50 tools/restore.sh examples/xiaomi-mi-box-s-2nd-gen/debloat.txt com.google.android.apps.tv.launcherx

The restore script replays the state recorded before the change, so Home goes back to the launcher that owned it. More in the restore guide and the Google TV debloat guide.

Xiaomi Mi Box S 2nd gen debloat FAQ

Is it safe to debloat the Xiaomi Mi Box S 2nd gen?

The Xiaomi Mi Box S 2nd gen list only uses pm disable-user, so nothing is uninstalled or flashed. Every package can be turned back on with the cleanyourtv restore script or from the TV's own Settings → Apps page. Apply it in small batches and check the TV between them.

How many packages does this Xiaomi Mi Box S 2nd gen list disable?

16 packages, grouped as: Telemetry and attribution; Ad rows, promos and auto-installs; Xiaomi update service, off by choice; re-enable to check for a firmware update; Preloaded apps, off by choice and more. Comment out any line you want to keep before running it.

Does the Xiaomi Mi Box S 2nd gen list work on a similar model?

Often, if the platform matches. Compare the device codename and firmware in the list header with Settings → About on your TV. The cleanyourtv prompt also checks each package on your own set before touching it, so a near match is a good starting point.

Will the Xiaomi Mi Box S 2nd gen get the Apple TV-style launcher?

Yes. After debloating, cleanyourtv builds its small native launcher (about 300 KB) and makes it the default Home, rolling back automatically if Home does not land on it.

How do I undo the Xiaomi Mi Box S 2nd gen debloat?

Run TV_HOST=<tv ip> tools/restore.sh examples/xiaomi-mi-box-s-2nd-gen/debloat.txt com.google.android.apps.tv.launcherx. It replays the record saved before the change. Full steps are in the restore guide.
